Hello, I'm Takumi Mogi, an engineer on the STUDIO team at JAPAN AI Inc.
Our team primarily handles the development and maintenance of the "JAPAN AI STUDIO" platform, working daily on product improvements to realize the construction of AI-native projects.

"JAPAN AI STUDIO" is a software development platform necessary for building AI-native organizations. It dramatically compresses development time and costs while drawing out the true power of AI agents, making it easy for field personnel with business knowledge to participate in development. This enables transformation to AI-premised organizations and business models.
In JAPAN AI STUDIO, you can build workspaces for agents on a project basis, configuring necessary components such as Agent, Knowledge, Custom Object, Workflow, Page, and Storage all together. Unlike traditional no-code/workflow tools designed for humans, it's characterized by being designed with the starting point of "first preparing an environment for AI agents to do good work." On top of that, we aim to build UI and experiences for human users from the perspective of how to redesign entire business operations together with agents.
In this article, I'll deliver a report on the hackathon using "JAPAN AI STUDIO" held on December 7th. Through the hackathon, we had expectations that unexpected application ideas would emerge from the hands of people with diverse backgrounds from outside the company—it was a challenge mixed with such expectations and the tension of conducting a hackathon with a product immediately after release. Additionally, as an engineer, it was a valuable opportunity to receive direct feedback from end users, and I was very much looking forward to it.
At JAPAN AI, we have previously held two internal hackathons to deepen understanding of our products while creating team-building opportunities.

This time, coinciding with the release of our new product "JAPAN AI STUDIO," we decided to hold our first open hackathon inviting external participants, driven by the desire to "have people outside the company directly touch and experience the possibilities of this product." Additionally, the purpose of this hackathon wasn't simply to have participants create one "convenient agent," but to test how they could remake entire business domains within STUDIO's Project framework. We wanted to see from participants' perspectives what would happen if processes like translation, recruitment, and customer support were redesigned with AI agents as the premise, combining not just individual agents but business data (Storage・Custom Objects), workflows (Workflow), and freely customizable screens (Pages)—we wanted to see that conception and implementation from the participants' viewpoints.
The event was conducted with a format of two weeks of pre-development period followed by a 1-day hackathon where results were presented. Ultimately, over 20 teams entered.
"JAPAN AI STUDIO" was born from the groundbreaking concept of "creating an environment where AI agents work." Like an office where humans work, anyone can freely build an environment where AIs with different roles collaborate as one team, working toward common goals.
However, this product has such high flexibility that its full picture can't be grasped without actually experiencing it. Therefore, many teams expanded their ideas after starting development, thinking "maybe we could do this too," flexibly changing their initial themes or adding new feature development.
During the pre-development period, we interacted with participants through a Discord community, where sharp questions beyond our expectations were exchanged, and there were many moments where we organizers were actually surprised.
The interim demos submitted by each team halfway through the development period were also very high quality, raising expectations until the day of presentation.
